What is a Battery Management System?

After every break, every night's rest with NO IDLING your engine will start - no problem, Your starting batteries are protected and always fully charged leaving you the peace of mind that your truck will start next morning. You might have left your TV on all night - no matter. With present alternator/regulator systems once drawn down your batteries will never fully charge. As a matter of fact your batteries will gradually get charged less and less until you have to replace them The problem is that you never know what morning the truck will not start. The lead acid battery is so far the only economical way to store energy. Mostly batteries had been used for starting of engines only. Big rigs are becoming more and more comfortable with large sleepers equipped with more amenities of home, such as TV, refrigerator/cooler, coffee pot, bunk heater, inverters etc. Although advertised as low consumption appliances, each using approx 4 amps over time the draw on the batteries becomes substantial. With ever rising fuel costs there is a growing demand for NO-IDLING and so far up to 19 states are now enforcing no-idling laws. In an effort to supply comfort and reduce idling many companies and owner operators install auxiliary cab/engine heaters.

Doesn't my alternator charge my batteries?

What happens now is that with this large discharge of lead acid batteries, present charging technology cannot restore the batteries to full capacity. The alternator/regulator voltage is fixed at about 14v at the alternator and the batteries arrive at this voltage before being fully charged thus not allowing any more transfer of energy. This will increase the resistance in the battery gradually resulting in less and less charging each time finally forcing the replacement of batteries again owing to sulfating. You are never quite sure. Therefore most trucks end up idling all night to ensure reliability.

THE ADVERC BM changes all that!

It is connected piggy back on your alternators regulator and takes over the regulation of the alternator field. It measures the voltage output at alternator B+ as well as the voltage at the plus pole on the battery (input). At the same time it measures the ambient temperature AT THE BATTERIES! Imagine what difference that makes when the outside temperature is at ZERO and the temperature measuring on standard alternators takes place in the engine room. The ADVERC then charges below and above the gassing point in TIMED cycles at a voltage that will result in complete transfer of lead sulfates back into the electrolyte. Now you can install an auxiliary cab/engine heater and have your batteries charged back to capacity during the next day. Imagine that from the time you install the ADVERC BM and an auxiliary cab/engine heater you will have no more cold starts and engine warm-up time. AND NO MORE IDLING. We installed a Webasto auxiliary heater in our 95 Freightliner FLD 120 that had three starting batteries and with the ADVERC BM supported Satellite TV, cooler and the heater with these batteries, and the engine started every time whether at 80 above or 20 below for two years. Then we took the that truck out of service. We have transferred the ADVERC BM to our 97 Freightliner Century Class. We have installed two maintenance free start batteries each with 1000 CCA and two Deep Cycle Batteries with 135 AH each and have separated them with a three way switch. By switching to the consumer batteries it does not matter if the driver forgets to shut off the TV etc. the start batteries will be fully protected and guarantee start every time. As a matter of fact with the ADVERC system the Detroit series 60 engine starts on one start battery - no problem.

The ADVERC BM means SAVINGS for you...

The savings are quite substantial in fuel alone. It is estimated that NO IDLING could easily save you approx. $3000.00 ANNUALLY per truck and this does not take into account savings on no warm-ups, longer life on start motors and reduced engine wear and tear. THE ADVERC BM also compensates for voltage drops which makes this system essential for applications that cause constant heavy energy demands. Such as tail gate lifts, wheel chair lifts, ambulances, armored trucks, school buses, etc. THE ADVERC BM at $595.00 plus installation is a cost effective solution and easily justifies the use of electric appliances and particularly the installing of auxiliary heaters, and even auxiliary air conditioning, that is now becoming available. The ADVERC BM pays for itself in increased battery life alone.
